What will change for Ukrainians in Poland?


New Amendment to the Act on Assistance to Citizens of Ukraine entered into force on January 28th, 2023. Check what will change for Ukrainians in Poland.

What’s changed?



Ukrainians have the right to benefits from only one country,
An extension of the legal stay of persons on a Schengen visa / visa-free travel / other Community residence permit has been introduced – until August 24, 2023,
The deadline for submitting an application for a UKR PESEL number is up to 30 days from the time of arrival in Poland; it should be submitted to Urząd Gminy in person. The date and place of crossing the EU border has to be entered in the application,
Article 38 of the Act on Assistance to Ukrainians concerning the possibility of submitting an application for temporary residence in blank after 9 months has been repealed. Applications submitted so far are left unprocessed,
Ukrainians can apply for temporary residence and work, Blue Card and running a business,
To submit a special application there is no requirement to appear in the office in person and present a valid travel document. A personal visit is only necessary when summoned by the voivodship office in justified cases. Fingerprints are taken from previous data or from the PESEL UKR database; if these fingerprints have never been submitted, the office will call the Ukrainian and fingerprints will be submitted normally,
The applications can be submitted from April 1st, 2023,
If a Ukrainian does not meet the standard requirements of the Act on foreigners, he or she gets a special residence permit for a period of 1 year;
